My first two visits weren't very long, but they both had ample time where I had the luxury of wandering at my own pace, to the places I most wanted to go. The third time I was in Rome, however, I was stopping off from a Mediterranean cruise, and we only had about 6 hours in the city. We were rushing about trying to see places while also trying to get in touch with our family back home that had some important news for us. St. Peter's Basilica was the most crowded I have ever seen it - there were points where my feet weren't touching the ground and I was held up by how tightly my shoulders were squished by those next to me! I was trying to show Rome to my cousin, but I told her, straight out, that I didn't think she would ever want to go back after that day. I know if that had been my first visit I certainly would not have wanted to ever go back, I am so thankful my heart was already fond of Rome before that experience!

Sarah
Sweet Spontaneity Sarahhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09596978594239032611noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7369547557247475858.post-27665660454329960472015-06-12T11:45:30.568-04:002015-06-12T11:45:30.568-04:00Rome was my first study abroad experience, too! I definitely get what you mean about the city becoming something different and opening itself up to you as you take more time to explore its lesser-known areas. I stayed in an apartment in Campo di Fiori, but Trastevere was always my favorite area!

amy / atlas nativeatlasnativehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07380720801037781007noreply@blogger.com
