Roaming Roma

My cousin flew into Florence last week for a visit. It was her first time to Italy, so naturally a visit to Rome was a must. I wish I could have joined her for her entire stay in Rome, but I had to work. I did, however, manage to sneak away for a day and a half. She didn't have much time in Rome, so we devised a plan for her to tackle the city in just two days (but more on that later).

I joined her Monday evening for dinner at one of my favorite restaurants, Pasta Love. The next morning we were up bright and early to visit the Vatican Museums, St. Peter's Basilica, Trastevere, the Jewish Ghetto, Pantheon, Piazza Navona, and Campo dei Fiori. It was a long, but amazing day. I was surprised at how hot it was while we were there. It felt more like late June than early May. Given our long day and the warm weather, I opted for a skirt, breezy top, and, most importantly, comfortable shoes

Rome can be an intense and overwhelming city. Unlike Florence, it is large and busy, with tons of sights to see. Most people who love Florence have lukewarm feelings for Rome, but I will always love Rome. It was the first place I ever lived in Italy and every time I return I am reminded of how much I miss it! While I advise having at least 4 days in Rome, it is possible to tackle the city in a couple days. I promise to share how to do just that next week.

Have you been to Rome? What is your favorite sight?
