Postcards from Paris: Day Two

The second day of our Parisian adventure was jam-packed. We woke up early to head to what I think is the most beautiful bridge in Paris, the Ponte Alexandre III. It is also a great spot to capture some epic photos (I have to give credit to Nicole, that incredible jumping picture was her idea and execution)!

Following our photo session, we headed to the Louvre. Quick tip for visiting the major sites in Paris, pre-purchase your entrance tickets to avoid wasting time in the crazy-long lines. You can either purchase the Paris Pass, or buy your tickets individually ahead of time in the tobacco shop underneath the Louvre, in the pyramid gallery. We did the latter. We purchased all of our tickets on our first day (in the tobacco shop), as well as a three-day metro pass (highly recommended).

I don’t think I will ever tire of visiting the Louvre. There are very few museums that compare, and despite how many times I have visited, there is still so much I need to see (there are over 35,000 masterpieces!). But since this was Nicole’s first time, we focused on the major works—the Mona Lisa (don’t worry I warned her how disappointing it was), the Winged Victory of Samothrace, The Raft of Medusa, Cupid’s Kiss, Liberty Leading the People, The Coronation of Empress Josephine, La Grande Odalisque, and da Vinci’s Virgin and Child.

After several hours we were museum fatigued and decided that a stroll through the Tuleries was exactly what we needed. Another quick tip, the food is actually decent inside the Louvre, so to save time break for lunch inside instead of having to leave.

Our next stop was the Champs-Élysées and Ladurèe. Nicole HAD NEVER HAD A MACARON, much less a Ladurèe macaron. Naturally, we purchased a bunch for her to try. Don’t worry she loved them. We continued on to the Arc di Triumph before heading back to our neighborhood (for more crepes). We decided to relax a bit in the Place des Vosges before dinner. That night we ate at a funky brasserie just across the street from our hotel, Le Pick Clops, before passing out in our beds!
