Products I Love: Hair Essentials

I get a surprising amount of compliments on my hair, especially the color, which funny enough I actually do myself! I began coloring my own hair a couple years ago when my travel schedule made it impossible to keep up with salon colorings. I started using Garnier's Olia a year ago and I love it. The color (5.5 Medium Mahogany) is perfect and it doesn't have ammonia. If you are going to color your hair at home, I also recommend that you rinse your hair in the shower with white wine vinegar after the color has processed. This makes it nice and shiny!

I have oily hair and I have finally learned that when it comes to washing my hair, less is more! Depending on my workout schedule, I wash my hair just 1-3 times a week (it is usually 2). This keeps my hair from getting too oily and means I blow dry less. The less you wash and dry your hair, the more important dry shampoo becomes. I am pretty sure I have tried them all, but DryBar's is my absolute favorite (I also love their hairspray and shower cap). It has a strong sent, but that is one of the reasons I like it! Before I blow dry I like to use Kiehl's Silk Groom, and in between style sessions, I revitalize my locks with Not Your Mother's Rise and Shine.

About a month ago, I purchased the DryBar 3-Day Bender curling iron. I hated it at first! But after finally mastering how to use it, I am obsessed and use it constantly (probably more than I should). I was glad to learn that I wasn't the only one struggling to use this iron, Carly (from The College Prepster) has made a how-to video after struggling with it herself.

And last but not least, my Pearson Mason brush! Yes, it is a crazy expensive hairbrush (here is the best deal you will find), but I can't stress how amazing it is. OK, I know I just called a hairbrush amazing, but hundreds of women on Amazon can't be wrong (don't believe me, check it out). I have tried other boar bristle hair brushes, but the combo of nylon and boar hair make this brush superior. It distributes the oils in my hair and makes it soft, shiny, and bouncy. Even after I work out, this brush refreshes my hair!
